Deliciously disturbing. Gary Jules‘ cover of the Tears For Fears song Mad World is haunting enough without the visuals of this creepy clown bellhop in an ill-fitting uniform who looks like a cross between a hunger striker and elastic man.

This is not news I know, but I just had to share. Here is Corporate Cannibal from the album Hurricane by Grace Jones:

YouTube Preview Image

Lyrics:

Pleased to meet you, pleased to have you on my plate
your meat is sweet to me
your destiny
your fate

you’re my life support, your life is my sport

I’m a man-eating machine X2

you won’t hear me laughing, as i terminate your day
you can’t trace my footsteps, as i walk the other way

i can’t get enough prey, pray for me X2
(i’m a man-eating machine)
corporate cannibal, digital criminal
corporate cannibal, eat you like an animal

employer of the year, grandmaster of fear
my blood flows satanical,
mechanical, masonical and chemical
habitual ritual

i’m a man-eating machine.. X2

i deal in the market, every man, woman and child is a target
a closet full of faceless nameless pay more for less empitness
[ Grace Jones Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]

i’ll make you scrounge, in my executive lounge
you pay less tax, but i’ll gain more back

my rules, you fools

we can play the money game
greedgame, power game, stay insane
lost in the cell, in this hell
slave to the rhythm of the corporate prison

i’m a man-eating machine…
i can’t get enough prey
pray for me
corporate cannibal…
digital criminal…

i’ll consume my consumers, with no sense of humour
i’ll give you a uniform, chloroform
sanatize, homogenize, vaporize… you

i’m the spark, make the world explode
i’m a man-eating machine, i’ll make the world explode
corporate cannibal…

Here’s a wonderful little short by Tim Burton and narrated by Vincent Price about a boy named Vincent, who sort of reminds me of myself.

YouTube Preview Image

Vincent Malloy is seven years old,
He’s always polite and does what he’s told.
For a boy his age he’s considerate and nice,
But he wants to be just like Vincent Price.
He doesn’t mind living with his sister, dog and cats,
Though he’d rather share a home with spiders and bats.
There he could reflect on the horrors he’s invented,
And wander dark hallways alone and tormented…

Thanks to Chuck G for pointing out this little gem again. An oldie but a goody.

Best mugs ever?

zombie-tiki

I just read a tweet from about these zombie mugs:

@VanTiki: Zombie Mugs are in the kiln. Will their undead flesh survive the firing? Fingers are crossed. http://yfrog.com/0rxjkp

I hope they turn out well!

Check out a higher res version of the photo and pop on over to vantiki.com and have a look at their fabulous wares.

Update:

@mikebrowne cracked open the kiln this morning and the zombies made it thru ok! Now I must mull over glaze options…

It has been a long time since I have posted on this site. It makes sense that the first post after my recent hiatus should be one about abandoned buildings.

Due to my fascination with forgotten places I have been known to indulge in a little Urban Exploration, or UE for short. I think my intrigue with such things has to do with my interest in history and other myths and legends. Walking into an old, abandoned house makes my imagination run wild with ideas about who could have lived there, what had happened there and what still might lurk within the walls.

This video captures that feeling very well:

Forgotten Places from ?Zac Boyet? on Vimeo.

I don’t recommend trespassing or exploring dilapidated, possibly dangerous buildings. If you really want to see inside make sure you take proper safety precautions and get permission to be on the property.

Devils Bible_.03.JPG

The Codex Gigas, which translated to English means, Giant Book, and pictured above is said to be the largest known medieval manuscript in the world.

The Codex Gigas is exceptional in its size. Not only is its cover is made from wooden boards, but the book measures out at 92 x 50.5 centimeters and weighs 75 kilograms. During the Middle Ages it was compared to the Seven Wonders of the World.

The book is made up of 312 parchment leaves, or 624 pages. Originally, there were 320 sheets, but eight pages were cut out of the book for some unknown reason. To obtain enough of the parchment, the skin of some 160 animals – probably calves – was needed. [source]

No one knows for sure who wrote this manuscript, dated to the early 13th century. That fact has given rise to numerous legends attempting to explain its existence. Here’s a particularly eerie one:

A legend concerning a monk of Podlažice walled up alive for his sins had already appeared in medieval times. He attempted to expiate his guilt by writing the world’s biggest book in a single night. Realizing the task to be beyond his powers, he invoked the aid of the Devil. The Devil aided him, had his portrait painted in the book and demanded the monk’s soul as payment. [source]

Recently National Geographic HD aired an hour long documentary about the book and the investigation of the manuscript by various experts. Here’s an excerpt from the show:

The findings experts in the program were that the book was the work of a solitary scribe over what must have been years, perhaps as many as 30. Perhaps doing penance for some unknown or perceived sins it turns out the book may have been the work of an entire lifetime.
