It has been a long time since I have posted on this site. It makes sense that the first post after my recent hiatus should be one about abandoned buildings.

Due to my fascination with forgotten places I have been known to indulge in a little Urban Exploration, or UE for short. I think my intrigue with such things has to do with my interest in history and other myths and legends. Walking into an old, abandoned house makes my imagination run wild with ideas about who could have lived there, what had happened there and what still might lurk within the walls.

This video captures that feeling very well:

Forgotten Places from ?Zac Boyet? on Vimeo.

I don’t recommend trespassing or exploring dilapidated, possibly dangerous buildings. If you really want to see inside make sure you take proper safety precautions and get permission to be on the property.

cannibals-soupShriekster, has absorbed zombiefreak.com, eaten it like Hannibal Lecter eats a victim’s liver with fava beans, gobbled it up like, assimilated it the Borg from Star Trek, the Next Generation or the creature from John Carpenter’s, The Thing. All the posts and comments that formerly resided on zombiefreak.com now live here at shriekster. Check out all of the posts from zombiefreak.com in the Zombies category on this site. Enjoy!

Interesting article titled The Zombie Next Door: The Science of the Walking Dead at spout.com. Here’s a little blurb:

For the walking dead to go from being a mere nuisance to a force capable of ending humanity, the affliction really needs to be contagious. In Night of the Living Dead, those killed by zombies soon rise to join their ranks, thereby growing the undead horde at an exponential rate. This model has been used in countless films since, with varying explanations about the nature of the zombie plague.

I love the social science behind zombies. Nerdy fun!
